This evening's performance will be a traditional sequence of musical compositions. The music will start with an Alap where Suhas will present the Ragas melodic structure. The Tabla will enter, creating complex patterns of rhythm improvised to meet and support the Raga. The speed will change throughout and will become increasingly faster presenting the skill of improvisation in both melody and rhythm.
There will be an interval where you can refresh at the cafe with samosa's and chai tea, coffee, cold drinks and snacks.
The second half of the programme will change in atmosphere where the music presented will be drawn from light classical music in the North Indian Tradition.
Suhas was drawn to Sarod as a child growing up in Holland, learning from Sri Kaustav Roy. Moving to Kolkata he was taught by Shree Bidyut Khan. Suhas is now taking advanced training with Prof. Sanjoy Bandopadhyay and is now based in Glasgow and performs regularly.
Vijays interest in music started early growing up in a musical household in Bombay. He started learning vocal music but soon turned to Tabla. He had the fortune to learn under Pt. Taranath Rao for many years. Vijay continues in the tradition of teaching and performing and lives in Glasgow.
This is a rare opportunity to listen to these two outstanding musicians in a small intimate theatre. An atmosphere rich in musical heritage. Not to be missed!
