This panel discussion will bring together long-established Scottish film and TV professionals from areas such as camera, editing, costume and makeup. They will discuss their career trajectories and take questions from the audience.
You will have the opportunity to gain insights into the past and present of screen production in Scotland from an insider’s perspective and learn about the behind-the-scenes aspects of various Scottish-based films and TV shows.
Over the last 50 years, the Scottish film and television sector went through significant expansion and diversification. It transitioned from a modest national production centre in the mid-1970s to a thriving global hub for film and high-end TV drama in the 2020s. However, while numerous Scottish-based productions have achieved domestic and international recognition throughout this time, little is known about the technical workforce behind these works.
This event celebrates the past 50 years of achievements by the Scottish filmmaking community and marks the launch of a new oral history collection on the Scottish-based freelance screen workforce at the National Library of Scotland Moving Image Archive. It was created in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University, the University of Edinburgh, and the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities. You will get a preview of this collection during this event.
Panellists will be announced at a later date.
This event is produced in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University.
