At the heart of the programme is The Blue Bird by Charles Villiers Stanford — a work of exquisite restraint and luminous beauty, evoking the silent arc of a bird over water.
Alongside this, the serene polyphony of Palestrina offers a glimpse into the clarity and poise of Renaissance choral tradition.
In dialogue with these classical voices are works by three leading female composers of our time: Judith Weir, Judith Bingham, and Sally Beamish. Their music brings contemporary colour, poetry, and emotional depth — expanding the concert’s theme of reflection, air, and light.
