From today, hungry diners will be able to enjoy a delicious meal at some of the city’s best restaurants while supporting The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice as part of the inaugural Glasgow Restaurant Festival.
Dining in The City, which runs until Wednesday 4th May, will offer foodies the chance to sample special set menus, priced at £15 or £25, at over 60 of Glasgow’s finest eateries, including Two Fat Ladies, Brian Maule at Chardon D’Or, The Honours and Gandolfi Fish.
Staff from the hospice were served up a special preview from Ryan James of Two Fat Ladies and Jacqueline O’Donnell from The Sisters Kelvingrove, to celebrate today’s launch. Over half of the restaurants involved will be making a 50p or £1 donation to the hospice’s Brick by Brick Appeal for every booking made during the Dining in The City fortnight.
Ryan James, Chairman of the Glasgow Restaurant Association, said: “We’re very excited to bring Dining in The City to the first ever Glasgow Restaurant Festival and are pleased that so many of our members are taking part in what will be a gastronomic feast across the city. This is the perfect opportunity for diners in Glasgow to sample restaurants they might not have made it to yet, and to experience the full culinary variety the city now offers.
“The Glasgow Restaurant Association and its members are proud supporters of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice and it is a real pleasure to help contribute towards their exciting Brick by Brick Appeal. Through events like Dining in The City we hope to raise funds to contribute to the kitchen at the new hospice in Bellahouston Park.”
Heather Manson, director of fundraising at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to dine out in style at Glasgow’s fantastic restaurants and help raise money for the hospice at the same time.
“We can’t thank the city’s restaurateurs enough for their kind generosity over the next two weeks. This will make a real difference to the Brick by Brick Appeal.
“This is an incredibly exciting time for us as we get ready to start building our new hospice at Bellahouston Park this summer. We would like to say a big thank you to all our supporters in the restaurant world in Glasgow.”
Dining in The City is the climax of the city’s Glasgow Restaurant Festival, which has already seen thousands of diners enjoying a beautiful Pop-up Dining experience, brought to them by different Glasgow chefs every day, in a stunning Spiegeltent within the Merchant City. Although the Spiegeltent has now closed its doors, Dining in The City gives foodies the chance to enjoy Glasgow’s dining scene at an accessible price until Wednesday 4th May, with the special Glasgow Restaurant Festival menus priced at £15 and £25.
To enjoy the special menus, diners just need to visit www.glasgowrestaurantfestival.co.uk where they can see a list of the participating restaurants. They can then view menus and reserve a table through a new website developed by leading online restaurant reservation system Res Diary in partnership with the Glasgow Restaurant Association.
Commenting on the website, Mike Conyers, CEO and founder of ResDiary, said: “As a Glasgow-based company, we are delighted to have had a hand in Dining in The City. Our mission is to encourage as many bookings, and therefore donations, as possible by using our experience to make the reservation process simple to use for all. We power reservations all over the world and it’s great to be working with such a worthwhile cause in our own city.”
The Glasgow Restaurant Festival is the result of a collaboration between Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB), Scottish Enterprise and the Glasgow Restaurant Association (GRA).
