The countdown to Clyde 1 LIVE 2016 is well and truly on with indie rockers Kaiser Chiefs and singer-songwriter soloist Tom Odell today confirmed to play at December’s sensational SSE Hydro gig.
In the first of a number of exciting act announcements, Clyde 1 breakfast show host George Bowie this morning announced the first two names for what will be a star-studded “night of the biggest bands”.
Taking place at Glasgow’s world class 12,000-capacity SSE Hydro venue on Sunday, 18 December, and sponsored by The Hub EK, Clyde 1 LIVE 2016 promises to the best multi-act concert in Scotland’s biggest city this year. Tickets for the gig are on sale now, with all information available at www.clyde1.com/live
Ricky Wilson’s Kaiser Chiefs make their Clyde 1 LIVE debut and are sure to draw a huge crowd buzzing to hear from their latest album, Stay Together, as well as all the classics from their award-winning back catalogue. With three Brit Awards, more than 1.1m UK single sales – including Ruby which reached number one – and Wilson starring in The Voice, the Leeds band’s popularity has never been higher and they are guaranteed to rock Glasgow on Sunday, 18 December.
In an exclusive interview with Bowie@Breakfast’s George Bowie, the guys from the Kaiser Chiefs said: “We’re so excited to play the SSE Hydro, this is the first time the Kaiser Chiefs will perform there and it’s been on our must-play list. There are a few things we haven’t done in our careers – one is Wembley and another is the SSE Hydro. The SSE Hydro was on our list because it looks so great.”
Adding: “This will be our tenth different Glasgow gig venue that we’re going to play and we couldn’t think of a better place to mark this milestone.”
On the same stage on the big night will be Clyde 1 LIVE favourite Tom Odell, who returns to the event for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year. Odell brought the house down with his unique set last year, which included an impromptu festive singalong, and will showcase the best from his latest album Wrong Crowd in Glasgow in two months’ time.
The big announcement was made this morning on Glasgow and the West’s favourite breakfast show, Bowie at Breakfast. Speaking after the news was released, Clyde 1 breakfast show host George Bowie said: “Wow – what a way to kick off Clyde 1 LIVE 2016.
“We’re absolutely buzzing that Kaiser Chiefs and Tom Odell are just two of the amazing acts we’ll have at Clyde 1 LIVE 2016 this year and on our stage in just a couple of months.
“It feels like this gig just gets better every year and with more major acts to be announced very soon the race is on to get your tickets for what will be an unmissable night of live music.”
Clyde 1 LIVE is now in its sixth year with the 2016 event the fourth in a row at the SSE Hydro. To get your hands on tickets and for more information visit www.clyde1.com/live
More acts will be announced very soon on Bowie at Breakfast, which runs every weekday morning from 6am to 10am on 102.5 Clyde 1.
