Greg McHugh, famed for his hilarious creation for TV (and latterly for stage at The SSE Hydro) Gary: Tank Commander, will star in this year’s SEC Armadillo pantomime as Gary Trot, brother of Jack. Mistakenly selling the family cow for only a bag of beans, Gary faces the wrath of his aunties, before finding that the ‘magic’ beans open-up an unexpected world of adventure.
Edinburgh-born Greg McHugh trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Alongside writing and starring as Gary McLintoch in Gary: Tank Commander, for which he was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA, Greg is well-known for playing Howard in Fresh Meat, a part he played from 2011 to 2016 and Eddie Scott in The A Word.
Gary joins The Dolls – Louise McCarthy (Only an Excuse?) and Gayle Telfer Stevens (River City) – who were announced earlier this year as playing Jack’s naughty aunties, Auntie Agnes and Auntie Sadie. The Dolls, with their unique brand of physical and vocal comedy, have recently stormed venues across the country with their show The Dolls Abroad, which enjoyed sell-out success.
Jonathan Kiley, Executive Producer for Qdos Entertainment, who will also direct this year’s show after a previous triumphant season at the venue directing John Barrowman and The Krankies said “The comedy of both Gary Tank Commander and The Dolls is absolutely hilarious and to have them on stage together will be a real panto treat. Both Greg and The Dolls have enjoyed huge success across Scotland and we’re excited, with the help of our Glasgow-based writer Alan McHugh, to be creating a real Scottish treat for SEC audiences this Christmas”.
Debbie McWilliams, Head of Live Entertainment Sales & Ticketing at the Scottish Event Campus said: “We can’t wait to welcome Gary back to the Scottish Event Campus for Scotland’s biggest pantomime. His hilarious comedy, plus The Dolls and Qdos Entertainment’s legendary 3D effects, is sure to have audiences roaring with laughter!”
The SEC panto also sees the return of 3D to Glasgow’s biggest panto adventure with audiences joining the Trot family on an exciting quest deep into a mysterious forest. Jack and the Beanstalk also features stunning special effects created especially for the world’s biggest pantomime producer, Qdos Entertainment, by The Twins FX.
Jack and the Beanstalk, which runs from Saturday 16 December 2017 until Sunday 7 January 2018 marks the seventh year of collaboration between the SEC and Olivier-nominated pantomime producer, Qdos Entertainment. Tickets cost from £17.05, with early-bird prices available until 31 May.
