The Southside Fringe Festival runs from the 10th to the 26th of May this year and we hear it’s going to be a blinder. Thanks to funding from UnLtd Scotland the team have been busy refurbishing a unit in Shawlands Shopping Centre ‘On The Fringe’ and invite you all along to their new year round home to find out more about getting involved and to help them launch their HQ at the end of the month.
So do you want to be part of an award winning festival and have a show, exhibition, act, set or just an idea you’d love to try out? Have you written a play or your first smash hit novel and would love to find the right platform to test it out before taking further? The team at Southside Fringe would love to hear from you.
Each year alongside the tried and tested sell out shows, the team hope to attract the experimental, the unseen, the next big thing. From fashion shows in swimming pools, dog shows for dogs, drag story times to mind bending magicians you’d be joining a well established performance platform with a reputation for quality and variety and which reflects the communities the festival was born from.
Not only is the Southside the most ethnically diverse area in Scotland but did you know that we also have a high concentration of talent and successful small businesses in the area? The team are celebrating the area’s diversity and talent in 2019 and can’t wait to hear from you all. To apply you can head over to their website. If you want to find out more they’ll be hosting their annual ‘Get Go’ on the evening of 14th February in their newly refurbished base ‘On the Fringe’ in Shawlands Shopping Centre. Registrations are open now and the team are happy to help out with any enquiries you have. Deadline for registering is 1st March 2019. If you’re not an event producer and would like to get involved in the festival you still can!
Other hot news, released today, the festival are running a photography competition. They are inviting y’all to ‘Show Us Your Southside’ and submit original photographs of the Southside of Glasgow, this could be anything from the Science Tower, Citizen’s Theatre, leaves on a tree in Pollok Park to sunsets at Shawlands Cross... They can’t wait to see the imagination and creativity the area holds. Open to all ages, the closing date for entries is 24th February and among other things, the winner will see their work on the cover of this year’s festival programme!
