Restaurant/bar So L.A. is challenging the idea that weekend brunch is a sleepy affair with a rebellious new menu that shines a ray of California sun on Glasgow’s city centre.

Since opening at the tail end of last year on Mitchell Street just off Buchanan Street, So L.A. has won itself a reputation for creating some of the city’s wildest flavour combinations and the Cali Brunch is stepping up the dining drama even more.

From a croissant burger overflowing with silky mac ‘n’ cheese to gourmet steak & eggs and dishes that are so ‘lit’ they’re actually on fire, the brand new weekend Cali brunch menu at the So L.A. restaurant and bar is challenging Glasgow to up its end of week dining game.

After weeks of menu development, the show-stopping Cali Brunch joins So L.A’s all day dining menu and is now available every Saturday (12pm to 4pm) and Sunday (11am to 4pm) and it’s a delight of sweet, savoury brekky classics and and super-creative takes on comfort food.

The Cali Brunch Eggs Benedict sees fried soft shell crab placed on top of English muffins drizzled with a creamy hollandaise and a sweetcorn relish. French toast comes topped with fresh fruit and edible flowers alongside a flaming crème brûlée and Hennessy maple syrup whilst the meat in the Steak & Eggs 90210 is a ludicrously luxurious sharing Chateaubriand.

Buttermilk pancakes are made fresh to order and come with strawberries, blueberries, banana, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and more ‘grammable flowers. There’s also the crushed avocado, which is bursting with flavour with lime, chilli, coriander and pickled onion all precariously balanced on butter-griddled sourdough.

If you real want to push the boat out, you can go for Veuve Clicquot Champagne, Bellstar Prosecco or Whispering Angel brunch to make it an extra special Cali Brunch Experience – all served with fresh orange and fruit, two classic brunch dishes and a popping candy dessert with a touch of gold.

The flavour explosions and theatrics continue with the drinks menu. Already renowned for their cocktails, from the The City of Angels drunk straight from a cherubs head to the Angel’s Candy garlanded with candy floss and the flaming Zombie Skull.

To top it off DJ Ray Woods provides a soundtrack of house, R&B and classics with a strict vinyl-only policy.

James Rusk, from So L.A. owners RUSK & RUSK, said: “So L.A. is all about channelling the awesome Californian vibe and mixing it up with a fair measure of cheeky Glasgow charm.

“With our Cali Brunch, we’ve created the most original, exciting and unapologetically weekend menu that Glasgow has ever seen. This is brunch for people who really seek out the best things in life and stretch the weekend to its limits.”
