Officially launching today (Wednesday, 1st June 2020), the raw ingredients evangelists have created ‘S_01 Rhubarb - sour face pull’ - the first of their seasonal flavours to celebrate Scottish summertime and to change the way we drink soda.
Using only fresh seasonal ingredients, the new limited edition rhubarb soft drink is available directly from www.rapscallionsoda.com and specialist independent retailers until the end of summer.
Two years in the making, Rapscallion Soda has lovingly experimented with flavour bursting Scottish rhubarb from Fife-based, McDonald Farm in Arbroath, to create an elegant soft drink that’s sustainable, low calorie and slightly sour with a fizzy floral finish.
Engineered by hand in small batches, every ingredient serves a purpose. Rapscallion delicately extracts the natural flavour and aromas from Scottish fresh fruits and ingredients before relying on pressure and cooling in production to elevate the natural taste. They then finish by supercharging with carbonation to maintain consistent quality and layers of flavour in their artificial-free products.
The end result for ‘S_01 Rhubarb - sour face pull’ is a low-calorie, vegan-friendly, carbonated water infused with Scottish rhubarb, pink grapefruit zest, Sichuan pepper, and raw organic cane sugar to create a natural Scottish soda that’s high on provenance and flavour.
Since their launch in 2016, Rapscallion Soda has built its reputation on creating sodas that use fresh, natural ingredients with unusual taste combinations to create their low-sugar soft drinks. Their core range includes zesty and spicy flavours; Dry Lime, Burnt Lemon and Ginger Ninja.
With an ethos centred around sustainability and a desire to shun artificial flavours and preservatives, the Scottish trailblazer is on a mission to get people across the UK drinking better-tasting drinks and ones that are good for you too.
Gregor Leckie, founder of Rapscallion Soda, explains: “We’re committed to making the best Scottish drinks you can get your hands on. Our promise is never to use artificial flavours and with our new seasonal rhubarb, we really wanted to create a drink that embodies the flavours and smells of the great Scottish summer.
“It’s sour, it’s sweet and it’s the perfect pairing with a Scottish handcrafted gin like Porter’s or banging on its own. Give it a try this summer if you can, you won’t be disappointed!”
Fraser McDonald, farmer at McDonald Farm said: “We are delighted to supply Rapscallion Soda with our homegrown rhubarb for their up and coming business. We look forward to seeing a traditional fruit becoming part of a new and exciting brand.”
The new limited edition rhubarb soft drink is available directly from www.rapscallionsoda.com and specialist independent retailers until the end of summer. Cans are priced at £2.67 per unit or £32 for a pack of 12.
