Glasgow’s Skyport will host a spine-tingling weekend of spooky thrills at the end of October – the perfect socially distanced experience for those looking to get their glammed-up Halloween fix.
Running from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November, the event is organised by XL Event Lab who launched their unique drive-in event this summer. The Halloween edition will feature classic horror films, live comedy, costume competitions, party bingo, silent discos, quizzes and food from The Big Feed.
Adrenaline seekers can take their pick of scary movies over the weekend, with The Conjuring (Thursday 29 Oct), The Blair Witch Project (Friday 30 Oct), IT (Saturday 31 Oct) and Halloween (Sunday 1 Nov) all guaranteed to send a shiver up your spine. There will also be family movie nights too with Hocus Pocus (Thursday 29 & Saturday 31 Oct), E.T. (Friday 30 Oct) and Ghostbusters (Sunday 1 Nov).
Each hair-raising movie night experience will be brought to life with professional scare actors, designed to make you jump out of your (car)seat. Resident DJs will also get everyone geared up and ready to go with pre-movie music, games and quizzes.
With guising in Glasgow unlikely this year, children can still get their fix of trick or treating. Social Kids events will take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with youngsters able to dawn their finest Halloween costumes and enjoy a spooky silent disco, costume parade, movie quizzes and more prizes than you can shake a broomstick at. The Social Kids events were the hit of the summer with organisers blown away by the response from families having fun together for the first time in ages – with the Halloween special set to be frighteningly good.
For adults, the Big Weekender on the Friday and Saturday is the chance to really let loose. Each night features the Car-a-oke mass singalong with live music, thrilling DJ battles and drag bingo with plenty of prizes. There will also be an interactive quiz where you compete with the entire crowd and a grown-up Halloween costume parade across the main stage – so if you’ve got it, haunt it.
Closing the weekend is The Parking LOL Social – an adult comedy night guaranteed to make you cackle in your car. Scottish comedian Mark Nelson is joined on the bill by Ireland’s Ryan Cullen, Edinburgh Fringe favourite Liam Withnail and Glasgow’s own Amelia Bayler.
Guests will enjoy the event from the comfort of their own car. Parked in front of a vast custom-made performance set featuring two 40ft screens, audio is transmitted directly from the stage through a dedicated FM radio channel via the car stereo.
Keeping guests and staff safe, the whole event is designed with social distancing at its heart - from entering the site, getting food and taking a trip to the loo.
Josh Kinnersley, Chief Operating Officer at XL Event Lab which is staging the events, said: “Glasgow was an absolute blast this summer, and with so many events selling out we had to return for an epic Halloween experience.
“Our line-up is packed with the most thrilling entertainment, and there’s really something for everyone. Whether you enjoy a spine-tingling movie or prefer an evening of belly laughs, we’ve got an event for you.
“The whole weekend is being done safely and responsibly, so guests can take part in our drive-in events without worry. We’re working closely with local authorities to make sure that everything is within the current Government guidelines, with the safety of our guests and staff our number one priority.”
Tickets for the Glasgow Halloween events start from £31.75 (per car) and are available to purchase now at theparkinglotsocial.co.uk.
