Sovereign Centros is preparing to showcase the new East End leisure development at Glasgow’s St. Enoch Centre with the scheme attracting exciting new brands and existing tenants committing to longer term leases.
TJ Hughes and Boom Battle Bar are the latest new signings at the Centre with toy store, Hamleys, who first arrived in St. Enoch Centre in 2009, committing to a further 10 years and relocating to a new 7,500 sq ft ground floor unit this Summer. Hamleys follows H&M who also committed to a new 10-year lease earlier this week.
TJ Hughes is a popular discount department store and its strong customer base will drive footfall. It is relocating from Trongate and will be opening a new 36,000 sq ft ground floor store on a 15-year lease.
Boom Battle Bar has signed a 10-year lease on a 10,000 sq ft unit on the upper mall, adjacent to the Vue Cinema. Dubbed “the best place to get socially competitive with friends”, this is the brand’s first venture into Scotland. It currently has nine sites across England and Wales and offers an eclectic mix of axe throwing, Crazier Golf, Boules, Electric Darts, Shuffleboard, Skee Ball, Pool, Curling, Marble Tarble and Boom Ball. The daring entertainment venue will also include a street food concept.
The new East End leisure hub will open to coincide with a wider retail reopening in Scotland and is a welcome boost for the city, set to bring new experiences to visitors after a difficult year of lockdowns.
Matt Elgey of Sovereign Centros, Asset and Development Manager for St. Enoch Centre, commented: “We are delighted to announce these long term deals with a range of emerging and established brands which is a strong endorsement of St. Enoch’s as the major retail and leisure destination within Glasgow and the wider region.”
“The retail and leisure market has seen what we have been creating within the Centre and is keen to be part of it. It’s exciting to be part of something new and different.
The addition of 100,000 sq ft of retail and leisure will extend the Centre’s opening hours and should increase turnover for many of our existing retailers too. There is a lot of student living and residential development in the pipeline at the Argyle Street end of the city and many of its new occupants will benefit from our new facilities.”
