The stylish store has secured the silver award at the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC) Visual Victories for Most Creative Temporary Store Design. The awards recognise professional excellence in the retail and real estate industry with entries from across the world.
The gift shop which is focused on supporting Scottish designers stocks a wide range of cards, jewellery, food, clothing and Scottish gifts as well as beer that owner John Henderson brews himself from his family farm in Jedburgh. It’s a reinvention of the traditional tourist gift shop focusing more on emotional relevance, ‘insta-worthy’ displays and immersive experiences for shoppers.
Priding itself on bringing Scottish brands, places and objects to life, Born in Scotland illustrates the stories of its unique products from more than 40 local Scottish artists and suppliers.
By creating eye-catching creative displays of the iconic yet quirky and entertaining merchandise that evokes nostalgia amongst shoppers, it clinched Born in Scotland the coveted industry award win.
Sustainability and profitability also played a role in this creative store design and elements of displays are often recycled to reduce waste and maximise store profits while clever point of purchase displays enable effective cross selling and last-minute sales.
John Henderson, Born in Scotland Founder and Owner said: “Born in Scotland is still in its infancy after rebranding from Born in the Borders brewing but we’re going from strength to strength. I’m honored to receive the title of Most Creative Temporary Store Design for our St Enoch Centre outlet.
“We take great pride championing the real Scotland, with all its humour and creativity but without the cheese. Our stores aim to evoke fun memories for locals while enticing the curiosity of tourists to both Scotland’s heritage and its contemporary design so it’s fantastic to see that recognised within the retail industry.”
Anne Ledgerwood, Centre Director of St. Enoch Centre added: “Congratulations to John and his team at Born in Scotland for this well-deserved accolade. We love its youthful and eye-catching displays as we are always looking at bold, fresh and modern ways to engage our customers and Glasgow’s shoppers.
“It’s an exciting period for St Enoch Centre as our multi-million-pound redevelopment progresses and we welcome new brands into the Centre this year. Over £40 million has been invested into creating a truly mixed-use destination and we hope this award is a sign of more to come for the Centre and our retailers.”
