The mill was founded in 1947 by the 5th Marquess of Bute with the sole purpose of providing employment opportunities for service people returning home from the Second World War. Situated on the Isle of Bute within the Firth of Clyde, the mill has gone from strength to strength, cultivating markets worldwide and consistently pushing the boundaries of innovation in fashion and textiles manufacturing. To this day the company is supported by the Bute family and share in their continuing commitment towards the local community.
During the mid to late 60s, Bute Looms designed and manufactured, hand-woven woollen fabrics for luxury fashion houses such as Dior, Balenciaga, Chloe, Yves Saint Laurent, and Mary Quant. In the run up to their 75th anniversary, Bute Fabrics is proud to present their new luxury fashion and accessories collection with the re-launch of Bute Looms, which will be showcased in their pop-up store along with their Bute Fabrics accessories range.
