Competitors will first tee-off on 8 May at Crieff Golf Club, marking the first event in the national championship. The multi-tee tournament will feature a total of six qualifying rounds over the summer months, culminating in a grand final.
The six qualifying rounds will take place at some of Scotland’s spectacular courses including Crieff, Old Course Ranfurly, Bruntsfield Links, East Kilbride, Portlethen, and Tain. This year the grand final is set to take place at the sensational Dundonald Links in August. The series offers players the opportunity to sample some fantastic Scottish golf courses at great value that includes hospitality before play.
In a slight change to last year’s qualifying criteria, the top three nett winners at each event will automatically progress to the final alongside the top twelve players from the championship Order of Merit. Qualification rules are designed to ensure inclusivity and fair opportunity for all. The more qualifying rounds a competitor plays, the more points they can accrue, increasing their chances of qualification. Players with a handicap who enter just one round can progress if they place in the top three, whilst those who compete at multiple qualifying events and place outside the top three but strongly each time, can still be in with a chance to qualify for the final.
All the finalists will have the privilege of playing on the stunning Dundonald Links course on the Ayrshire coast and will win a range of golf prizes courtesy of title sponsors and leading global golf brand, PING, with the Grand Final nett winner being crowned Series Champion.
The unique tournament is open to a field of almost 1000 golfers of all ages and types, including both club and independent golfers. The Open Series has been specifically designed to encourage entries from high handicappers, giving golfers with little or no competition experience, as well as seasoned competitors, an equal opportunity to play against one another in a national tournament.
Toni Ffinch, Senior Events Manager at Scottish Golf: “At Scottish Golf, we were delighted about the positive feedback from golfers on last year’s PING Series. The Championship forms part of our strategy to offer an increasingly inclusive events agenda, that is both appealing and accessible to the whole golfing community in Scotland. The Series welcomes golfers of all ages, gender, and ability, and is unique in opening the door to competitive golf for all player types. Players will get the chance to experience a prestigious event that has the feel of a national championship.
We are once again being sponsored by PING on this inclusive championship series, and we’d like to thank them for their continuing support for new styles of competition.”
PING Series places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. If the field is full, then golfers are advised they will be placed on a waiting list.
Competitors are advised to enter the competition, and all Scottish Golf events, through the Scottish Golf website.
