VEGA’s iconic disco lift will mark one week to go until Glasgow International Comedy Festival (GICF) comes to town, by hosting some of the shortest shows of the festival…in the lift! VEGA and YOTEL Glasgow guests can enjoy jokes and short sets from comedians set to play the festival including Josie Long, Chris Forbes, Sad Girls Club and more.
VEGA will celebrate the funniest city in the world with the special comedy pop up marking one week to go until Glasgow International Comedy Festival officially kicks off on 13th March, with the best of the fest taking to VEGA for one night only. The Festival runs until 31st March, with international acts joining the very best comedians from across the UK and Scotland.
From 5 - 7pm on Wednesday 6th March, GICF comedians will take over VEGA’s disco lift, entertaining customers from floors one to seven with non-stop jokes. Head along to VEGA for a cocktail or two and plenty of laughs be
GICF will reach hilarious new heights at VEGA as comedians spend 30 minutes at a time in the immersive disco lift complete with neon lights and music. The comics will entertain guests no matter how short their trip, so expect some of the fastest jokes you’ve ever heard and a lift journey like no other.
English comedian Josie Long will pop up in VEGA’s disco lift, having appeared on top TV panel shows like Never Mind the Buzzcocks, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order. Josie won the BBC New Comedy Award at the age of only 17 and has gone on to have hugely successful runs at Edinburgh Fringe.
Scot Squad star and ‘The Other Murray Brother’ Chris Forbes will perform a stint in the disco lift, bringing jokes from his stand-up show ‘Court Jester’ to VEGA guests. Having performed all over the world and supported the likes of Kevin Bridges on tour, Chris will give guests a sneak preview of his show which takes on the hilarious, true story of trying to make it as a professional basketballer in the USA.
Sad Girls Club, a comedy play, will invite guests to join their club - whether you identify as a ‘sad girl’ or not. Have fun being sad as the actors join you on a disco lift trip like no other, party hats and all. Plus, musical comedian Eddy McKenzie will soundtrack a stint in the disco lift, whilst stand up Elliot Simpson will have guests laughing the night away.
Euan Wilson, General Manager at VEGA said: “We’re really excited to have Glasgow International Comedy Festival pop up for one night only in VEGA’s legendary disco lift. Whether you’re heading to VEGA for post-work drinks, staying with us at YOTEL Glasgow or just want to come along to see some of Glasgow’s best comedians, we hope it will brighten your day and get you laughing!”
YOTEL Glasgow’s top floor bar and restaurant is the perfect spot for some pre-show cocktails during the city’s comedy festival, which takes place from 13th - 31st March. Sip on sky-high cocktails like Aye, Berry Good!, a fruit blend of Absolut Raspberri, strawberry and raspberry puree and Passoa, or a Sour Patch Senorita, VEGA’s twist on a classic margarita, before heading to comedy shows in nearby venues like the Pavilion Theatre or the O2 Academy.
Make a night of it and book a room at YOTEL Glasgow so you can make the most of over 555 shows taking place as part of GICF, with huge acts like Ed Gamble, Susie McCabe, All Killa No Filla, Mark Nelson, Kieran Hodgson and more set to perform. With a huge variety of shows on offer including traditional stand up, musical comedy, improv, theatre, live podcasts and more, Glasgow International Comedy Festival is an unmissable event this spring.
