Kind-hearted GlasGLOW event goers helped raise a massive £20,000 at last year’s show which is being split between 10 fantastic local groups, charities and organisations including Hillhead High to help do good in the local area surrounding the Botanic Gardens where GlasGLOW takes place each year over the Halloween period.
Hillhead High was a recipient of The itison Pumpkin Fund in 2022 when they were granted £5,000 towards a new school bus with the the school’s Parent Council working hard to raise the remaining amount needed.
After the old bus broke down, itison stepped back in to donate the final £5,000 needed through The itison Pumpkin Fund to get the much needed new bus over the line and out on the roads, taking itison's total donation to £10,000.
CEO of itison and founder of GlasGLOW, Oli Norman said: “We’re delighted to donate the remaining £5,000 needed to make sure that the pupils at Hillhead High finally have a new bus that will make getting out and about easier.
“Doing good in our local area has always been a key part of GlasGLOW and we’re grateful to everyone who attended the event and made a donation to our Charitree for helping make this happen.
“Over the years we’ve been able to support some fantastic projects and this year we were excited to spread the reach of the Pumpkin Fund even further by supporting ten small local groups and charities to improve the brilliant services they deliver.”
Speaking on the donation, head teacher Karen McAlaney said: “The mini-bus will make a tremendous difference to so many of our young people. We run a number of curricular and extra-curricular activities that rely on our ability to transport pupils such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, musical, cultural and sports clubs.
“These activities are so important in allowing our young people to flourish and our new school minibus will ensure our young people continue to have access to a wide range of opportunities. We are very grateful to itison for the very generous contribution towards the new minibus and to our Parent Council for all of their support with fundraising.”
Recipients of The itison Pumpkin Fund this year include Abercorn Secondary, 3D Drumchapel, North United Charities, AMMA Birth Companions, Kelvindale Primary School, St Patrick’s Primary School, the G20 Community Hub’s Hope Café, the Glasgow Taxi Charity, and St Paul’s Primary in White Inch.
Since it launched in 2019, The itison Pumpkin Fund has raised over £80,000 for local charities predominantly focusing its support on small local groups, schools and organisations.
Some of the projects funded have included a new minibus for Highpark LCR in Ruchill, creating a new state of the art sensory room and soft play area for the kids at East Park in Maryhill and supporting the team at Love Milton to create a new outdoor play area and mud kitchen.
In addition to supporting capital projects in the local area, The itison Pumpkin Fund also donates 2,000 free tickets every year to charities, community groups and good causes in the local area to help those who might otherwise be unable to attend GlasGLOW and hosts free pumpkin carving workshops in the Botanics before GlasGLOW to bring the community together.
