The Weeling, a celebration of music, dancing, crafts and calm, will make its debut as part of The Reeling, Glasgow’s summer celebration of traditional Scottish music at Rouken Glen Park.
Running across two days of the main festival (7-8 June), The Weeling will bring the festival experience to wee ones, complete with ceilidh sessions, story-led yoga, crafty fun, and more.
Ceilidh Tots, a specially designed music session for preschoolers and their grown-ups, will feature live traditional tunes, mini instruments, sensory play, and plenty of bubbles to chase around.
For those needing a moment of calm after a boogie, families can unwind together in the Zen Den, where Story Time Yoga offers a gentle way to stretch and settle little minds.
Creative hands can head to the Craft Tent, where little ones can get stuck into making flower crowns, sea glass jewellery, festival wands, and more. There’ll also be a messy play zone for finger painting, and a photo booth to capture precious memories.
The Reeling’s pass-out policy gives parents flexibility to drop kids at home and return in time for headline acts (last entry 8pm), and the festival is free for under 5’s.
Kids will even have the chance to help decorate the festival’s Reeling drums, which will be transformed into playful planters and part of the children's area décor.
The festival has always been kid friendly, but due to demand The Reeling has upped the size and scope of activities, with the space having a direct view of the main stage so parents can watch in a safe fenced off area for kids to play.
Michael Pellegrotti, co-director of Skye Live Festival and founder of The Reeling, shared his excitement: “We’re absolutely buzzing to launch The Weeling this year, a special wee corner of the festival just for our tiniest music fans.
“We’ve always made space for families here at The Reeling, but this is us taking it up a notch. We’ve created something fun, engaging, and totally unique for kids. Think heel-toe, here we go, and bubbles everywhere.”
This year’s Reeling Festival has already expanded due to high demand, kicking off on Friday 6 June with headliners Tide Lines.
Over the weekend, the Southside park will come alive with top traditional acts including Dougie MacLean OBE, Shooglenifty, Eddi Reader MBE, Talisk, Valtos, RURA, Breabach and Mec Lir.
Expect world-class music across two stages, alongside a delicious selection of Scottish food and drink, with plenty on offer for both big and small appetites. Kids under 5 attend for free, while 5+ require a ticket (prices on website).
Tickets for The Reeling (and The Weeling) are on sale now. For more information, visit The Reeling website.
