In joint celebration of Celtic Connections’ 30th edition and its pioneering education programme, young musicians come together from regions across Scotland, showcasing their home traditions before premièring a brand-new ensemble composition from Treacherous Orchestra co-founder John Somerville.
Since 1999, over 200,000 children, from 70% of Glasgow’s schools, have taken part in Celtic Connections’ education events – often their first ever experience of live music. The learning continues in the Strands project, via an extended online and in-person development process, with each area’s budding talents choosing and arranging their own material, as well as rehearsing Somerville’s piece. Featuring some 30-40 musicians in total, steered by Somerville with fellow tutors Mhairi Hall and Adam Sutherland, the group also play one of the festival’s renowned school concerts, helping inspire the next generation in turn.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
