Granadian-Canadian artist Kaia Kater’s artful banjo playing, jazz-fuelled voice and lush song-writing have attracted the acclaim of titles including Rolling Stone which praised her as being ‘plaintive, mesmerising…’ ‘she writes and performs with the skill of a folk-circuit veteran…’.
The most recent of Kater’s three albums – the JUNO-nominated, Polaris Music Prize long-listed Grenades – leaned into a wide array of topics, including her Caribbean ancestry. In 2020, she took part in a Canadian Film Center music residency, released a new single and wrote original music for The Porter, which won a Canadian Screen Award for Best Original Song in a Drama Series. Her next much-anticipated album lands in 2024.
