Lionel Shriver, internationally renowned author of best-selling novels such as We Need to Talk About Kevin and The Post-Birthday World, returns to Aye Write to discuss her new novel Mania, in which she turns her piercing gaze on the policing of opinion and intellect.
Hilarious, deadpan, scathing and at times frighteningly plausible Mania satirically imagines a world in which intellectual meritocracy is heresy. A world where according to the Mental Parity Movement everyone is equally clever, exams and grades are all discarded, and discrimination based on intelligence is 'the last great civil rights fight'.
