Hi there!
We are the Weegie Whackers – Glasgow’s first LGBTQ+ tennis club! Our club is still less than a year old, but we already have over 50 members and we’ve even been nominated for the ‘Tennis for All’ award at the Tennis Scotland awards.
On Saturday 18th May, we are running a special event for LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people, with the aim of providing more tennis opportunities for queer folk, but also in the hope that you wonderful people might like to join the club long-term!
This event is open to people of all playing abilities, but will be coached at a beginner level so that nobody feels out of their depth. So if you’ve never picked up a racket, or you play regularly but you’re still trying to find your community – this is the event for you! The session will also be run by an experienced LGBTQ+ coach.
We’ll meet at our local courts at Newlands Park Community Tennis Centre (right in front of Dandelion Café). We’ll play some tennis from 1-3pm, and we encourage everyone to stay on for a while afterwards for an ice cream/ hot or cold drink (vegan options available) from the Café. Make sure to wear comfortable sports clothing and trainers. We’ll have some tennis rackets available for use, but please bring your own if you already have one!
A huge thank you to LEAP Sports who are funding this event, and have supported the Weegie Whackers since the beginning.
Accessibility & Other:
There are no public toilets on site. However, we will be able to use the toilets at Dandelion Cafe.
The courts are wheelchair accessible, however, we won’t have any tennis wheelchairs available at this event unfortunately. Feel free to bring your own!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
