Jupiter & Okwess

Discover why Jupiter & Okwess' animated Afro-funk, merciless grooves, and high-speed jams have attracted critical acclaim and adoring fans the world over when they come to Celtic Connections!

Jupiter & Okwess

About Jupiter & Okwess

Jupiter & Okwess is a five-piece Congolese funk rock explosion led by the revered Jupiter Bokondji. With a sound that bewitches the body and feeds the soul, Jupiter and his bandmates have been drawing the rhythms of the Congo out of obscurity, ready for every kind of musical coupling and invitation.

The band already count Damon Albarn and Money Mark (The Beastie Boys) as collaborators, and on their fourth album, Na Kozonga, they’ve captured the samba of Rogê, the rap of Marcelo D2, the horns of New Orleans and the voice of the militant Chilean singer, Ana Tijoux.

Discover why Jupiter & Okwess’s animated Afro-funk, merciless grooves, and high-speed jams have attracted critical acclaim and adoring fans the world over.
