About Wylie & Lochhead and the Glasgow Style
Ernest Archibald Taylor, John Ednie and George Logan were the three young designers responsible for the New Art interiors launched at Wylie & Lochhead's pavilion at the Glasgow 1901 International Exhibition. All three taught in the Industrial Arts Department of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College, and their designs for Wylie & Lochhead set the bar for the commercial application of the Glasgow Style to interior design.
This well-illustrated talk is centred around works in Glasgow's internationally important civic collection, and looks at Wylie & Lochhead's contribution to Glasgow's cutting-edge New Art movement of the 1890s-1910s, placing the creativity of their young design team into the broader context of the development of the Glasgow Style.
