Scents of the City - A Night Out On Sauchiehall Street

About Scents of the City - A Night Out On Sauchiehall Street

A night out doesn’t always start in the evening. It might begin with an afternoon dander round the shops in preparation - catching the whiff of a new leather jacket, the powdery smell of the cosmetics counter, the faint piney tang of department store lino and a quick pit stop for a coffee. Later, a skoosh of 'White Musk' blends with the mingling smells of chips, cigarettes, spilt beer, sweat, and the musty damp of the Subway. Join perfumier Clara Weale and fashion historian Mairi MacKenzie for a journey through the scents of nights out across the ages.

Free event. Booking is encouraged to help manage numbers, but limited drop-in tickets will be available. If you can no longer attend, please let us know—we’d greatly appreciate it!

This event is apart of an events programme, which will run alongside an immersive exhibition "Not to be Sniffed At - an Aromatic History of Sauchiehall Street". The exhibition invites visitors to experience the street's past through their sense of smell.

Running from April 19 to May 1, this unique collaboration between Glasgow Building Preservation Trust and perfumer Clara Weale explores the evocative power of scent in shaping memory and place.

This work is a part of the exploration phase programme for Sauchiehall Street: Culture and Heritage District, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, in partnership with Glasgow City Council.
