Charities across Scotland have felt the strain on their donations as the whole country faced an extremely challenging year, so the leading Glaswegian shopping centre has played its part by donating £1,000 to five charities to help alleviate the loss.
St. Enoch Centre will be donating to five charities which offer support and aid to those in need throughout Scotland, including The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, Cancer Support Scotland, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Ronald McDonald House and Salvation Army.
With Glasgow in tier four at the beginning of December, Cancer Support Scotland and The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice were unable to carry out their annual bucket collections at the centre which delivered another blow to the crucial funds which are usually made at this time of year making the donations not only timely, but also more necessary than ever.
Anne Ledgerwood, general manager at St. Enoch Centre said: “We really treasure the work our charity partners do for the communities they work in, and we’re glad we can be a part of this tremendous effort to improve the lives of those in need.
“It’s been a difficult year for everyone and as Christmas approaches, there is no better time to show our support for these five organisations.”
Claire Benjamin, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Cancer Support Scotland commented: “Whilst Christmas shopping won’t feel quite the same this year and we’ll miss our opportunity to bucket shake and chat to the lovely people passing through St. Enoch Centre, we were absolutely blown away by their generous gift.
December is normally our favourite time of year as we get the chance to meet so many of our supporters and say thank you in person, this year even though we’ll be doing it virtually, every penny raised online will make a huge difference to the mental health and wellbeing of those affected by cancer. A huge ‘thank you’ to the team at St. Enoch Centre for supporting us this Christmas and we look forward to being back in the centre chatting to shoppers next year!”
With St. Enoch Centre reopening to shoppers following the easing of restrictions, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Ronald McDonald House and Salvation Army will be able to go ahead with their bucket collections and are looking forward to raising funds with the help of the generous Glaswegian public.
Helen Craig, House Director at Ronald McDonald House Glasgow, said: “For families with a child in hospital there has been no pause button during COVID, their lives away from home and family has been made all the more difficult this year.
“St. Enoch Centre’s donation of £1,000 to Ronald McDonald House Glasgow is truly a wonderful gift helping us to keep our doors open and provide accommodation at a time when families need to be safe together now more than ever. On behalf of the many families who will have precious time together this festive season, we thank you.”
William McGowan, Head of Fundraising, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity said: “Being in hospital at Christmas time is extremely difficult, but thanks to generous supporters like St. Enoch Centre, we can fund life-changing projects and services to make hospital journeys a little easier for seriously ill children, their families and our NHS heroes.
“Our fundraising income has been significantly impacted this year, so we would like to share our heartfelt thanks with St. Enoch centre for this generous donation, and for giving Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity the opportunity to safely collect within the centre this month.”
