Taking a trip doon the watter, the pair of lookalikes appeared to be enjoying a day out on the river, much like the episode of the comedy series where Jack takes Victor on a fishing trip for his birthday, getting into a spot of bother with Parkmill’s young team (Smoke on the water, series 5 episode 3)
Not alone in the boat, the pair were spotted with cases of Jack and Victor Whisky as they made their way downstream from the Ha’Penny Bridge near Ford Road. It’s not clear just how far the pair went on their trip on the Kelvin, they may have been spotted in other locations.
Since going on sale two weeks ago, the limited-edition gift pack of Jack and Victor Whisky has been selling fast. Complete with two 20cl bottles of the blended scotch, one labelled ‘Jack’ and the other ‘Victor’, fans of the show can pick up the ideal Christmas present exclusively at www.jackandvictor.com.
Commenting on the sightings, Ford Kiernan who co-wrote and starred as Jack in Still Game, said: “We’d be lying if we pretended that we didn’t have anything to do with this… the limited-edition gift packs of our whisky have been selling like the clappers, so we had to call in re-enforcements to get some more sent out from Osprey Heights. Fingers crossed they didn’t end up getting clobbered with a can of lager to the head like poor Winston did that day.”
Adding his thoughts, co-writer Greg Hemphill who played Victor in the show, said: “After Jack and Victor’s escapades on the Kelvin for Victor’s birthday all those years ago, there was no chance I was getting back in that boat. Thankfully we managed to rope in a couple of fans who were keen to don the costumes and take to the water, don’t worry though, they were well compensated for their troubles and as far as we’re aware, nobody dropped a TV off a bridge onto their boat.”
The stunt is the latest in a series of activity which Ford and Greg have been doing to support the launch of their limited-edition gift pack of Jack and Victor Whisky. Fans of the show were treated to hearing the pair’s voices on TV for the first time in years as an advert for the dram premiered on STV on November 17th. In the same week, images of the gift pack were projected onto iconic Glasgow landmarks, including the Collina Street flats in Maryhill, the building which doubled as Osprey Heights in Still Game.
The dram, which sold out its first batch when launched back in May, has been created by ‘master tasters’ Jack Jarvis Esq. and Victor McDade. The dram’s taste has notes of honeyed orchard fruits and sweet malted barley with a delicate peat smokiness, fresh vanilla and oak. Fans of the show can pick up the gift pack, 70cl bottles and glassware online now at www.jackandvictor.com
