they’re abseiling down from the magnificent Forth Rail Bridge, dangling at a dizzying 165 feet! This hair-raising adventure, in support of Heart Scotland and Capital Scotland’s Charity, Global's Make Some Noise, will take place on Sunday, October 8th, 2023.
Des Clarke and Fat Brestovci and are putting their heart and soul into training for this daredevil abseil. Their mission? To raise as much money as humanly possible for Global's Make Some Noise. Joining Des and Fat in this sky-high spectacle is the awe-inspiring Corr Hutton, the founder of Finding Your Feet, the charity based in Paisley and which supports amputees across Scotland. Corr is a force to be reckoned with – a quadruple amputee, single mother, activist, and she was also the first Scot to receive a double hand transplant.
This is the 10th year of Global’s Make Some Noise charity appeal and in that time, supporters have helped change the lives of over 175,000 people and support 440 incredible small projects in communities here in Scotland, and across the UK. These small charities make a big difference – and now, more than ever, they need our support.
Growing up in the towering heights of Gorbals high-rise flats in Glasgow, Des has always harboured a fear of heights. He is currently undergoing therapy and hypnosis treatment to prepare himself mentally for the charity abseil.
Des humorously remarked: “When I say I'm terrified, I really mean it. This is a huge challenge for me, and I hope that the good people of Scotland will donate as we raise funds for Global's Make Some Noise while supporting Finding Your Feet with this epic challenge which is giving me sleepless nights which isn’t ideal when I’m up at 5am to host the breakfast show on Heart!”
Fat Brestovci said: “I’m not going to lie; I’m bricking it but I am so inspired by the team at Finding Your Feet that I’m really honoured to be participating in this challenge. I’m determined to raise lots of money as the work they carry out is life-changing for so many people.”
Tallia Storm, Fat's co-presenter on Capital Scotland, said: “I'm so proud of Fat as he dives headfirst into this fundraising feat! He might be feeling the jitters, but every donation is a step closer to boosting his confidence. So, please, let's shower him with love and those all-important donations!”
In 2013, Corr Hutton’s, the founder of Finding Your Feet, life took an unexpected twist when a harmless cough led to pneumonia and sepsis. She defied the odds after both her hands and legs were amputated, going on to win a slew of awards and accolades for her charitable endeavours.
A squad of 12 extraordinary individuals nicknamed “The Troopers” from the Finding Your Feet charity will also be plummeting alongside Des, Fat and Corr in this awe-inspiring abseil challenge.
Corr Hutton said: “We're over the moon that Des and Fat’s Big Drop is drumming up funds for us via Global's Make Some Noise. We're all geared up for the abseil, and come rain or shine, we're committed to having a lot of fun with this, we’re turning the fear into excitement!”
All the money raised for Global’s Make Some Noise will go towards helping small charities like Finding Your Feet. And to donate online, please visit www.justgiving.com
