Kicking off a support package including volunteering and fundraising, the initiative will go a long way to helping the community-run charity ensure local Cambuslang and Rutherglen children, families, young and older people do not go without this festive season.
The charity, which aims to make Cambuslang and Rutherglen the healthiest and happiest places to live in Scotland, will benefit from hands on support from Topgolf Glasgow’s Playmakers as the organisations pull together to create a gift-drop-off point and sorting station.
Topgolf staff will work closely with Healthy n Happy throughout November and December as they join forces to gather as many gifts as possible for those living in Cambuslang and Rutherglen – providing wrapped gifts, or presents with wrapping paper and Sellotape to allow parents and guardians to package them for their loved ones themselves.
Gifts can be dropped at Topgolf from Monday, 13th November through to Thursday, 30th November.
This partnership marks the Glasgow venue’s latest move to support positive change. Since opening in December 2022, Topgolf Glasgow has taken an active role in the community by welcoming thousands of school children for free taster sessions and providing hundreds of jobs for local residents, culminating in the venue being shortlisted for a SURF – Scotland’s Regeneration Forum for ‘Removing Barriers to Employability’.
Healthy n Happy work with local Cambuslang and Rutherglen residents of various ages and stages, focusing on helping those in the most challenging circumstances. They aim to make a difference by offering lots of fun, purposeful activities for everyone in the two communities to benefit from and enjoy. These include social events; children’s classes and school holiday camps, as well as activities to improve physical and mental health for all. These include cycling, exercise classes, creative arts, skill-building workshops and mental health sessions.
Families, individuals and groups of all types from Healthy n Happy will have a chance to get together throughout the year to enjoy the wide range of golf games available in Topgolf’s comfortable and technology-packed bays.
Simon Green, Operations Director, Topgolf Glasgow, said: “At Topgolf we believe that being a part of our community means more than just creating a fun and welcoming space – it’s about getting involved, understanding our neighbours and the area we operate in, and putting our own efforts into affecting change where it is needed most.
“We all know that the festive season can be a challenging time, so we wanted to launch our new partnership with Healthy n Happy ahead of Christmas and begin to help make a meaningful impact in Cambuslang, Rutherglen and across Glasgow, right away. Everyone at Topgolf Glasgow is getting behind the gift donation and is looking forward to bringing some fun and joy to those accessing Healthy n Happy, while raising awareness and supporting this fantastic cause.”
Brendan Rooney, Executive Director, Healthy n Happy, said: “We are delighted to build an exciting partnership with Topgolf Glasgow, and we would like to thank them sincerely for their support. This partnership, and Christmas gift drive initiative ‘Give a Gift of Joy’, will go a long way to helping local people across Cambuslang and Rutherglen - and will also offer the opportunity for some of our local residents to access a fabulous new modern facility”.
