Wasps Studios, the UK’s largest provider of creative spaces, has held their Winter Market at The Briggait each December for several years, with each event seeing a growth in popularity for visitors and small creative businesses alike.
On offer from the stall holders was a wide array of unique gift ideas, including jewellery, ceramics, textiles, furniture, glassware, aromatics, prints and paintings. The Briggait’s iconic historical 1873 Hall served as the backdrop for the annual market, which once served as Glasgow’s fish market for over a century.
To mark the 150th anniversary of The Briggait’s opening on 9th December, the Sunday saw a shoal of fish performers (from Surge Scotland) made their way around the stalls, interacting with artists and visitors to the market.
The 9th December 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of The Briggait’s opening, which will be celebrated in the building this week on Thursday 7th (5pm-7pm) with an exhibition of work made by artists that now have studios at The Briggait, and schoolchildren from Blackfriars Primary. The Briggait-based artist Kayleigh McGuinness has been working with the local P5s and P6s to create artwork inspired by the architecture and history of this Glasgow landmark.
