Dobbies, the UK’s leading garden centre, is celebrating National Children's Gardening Week (25 May – 2 June) by announcing its search for new Little Seedlings Club Ambassadors across the UK.
Dobbies is looking for children aged 4-10 who have a passion for gardening and garden adventures to get involved.
Budding young gardeners who are looking to inspire their peers to get into gardening are now encouraged to get in touch. These ambassadors will play a key role at Dobbies’ monthly free Little Seedlings Club workshops, which seek to encourage children enjoy to the wonders of nature.
The successful ambassadors will become the faces of Dobbies’ monthly workshops, write blogs for the website, and feature in news articles and photographs. The application process is simple; interested applicants only need to visit www.dobbies.com and fill out a short form.
Emma Tailford, Dobbies’ Horti Manager, would encourage budding young gardeners to apply. She said: “We love welcoming our young customers to the Little Seedlings Club workshops every month and take joy in inspiring the next generation. We had a fantastic response to our ambassador search last year, and it’s been rewarding to see the children thrive on their personal gardening journey.”
The next free Little Seedlings Club workshop takes place during National Children’s Gardening Week on Sunday 2 June. The session will focus on growing your own herbs, encouraging children of all gardening abilities to get stuck in and learn the joys of growing your own produce.
From planting and cooking, to learning the difference between herbs and spices and all their amazing smells, this interactive workshop is designed to teach budding gardeners not just how to grow and nurture herbs, but also their medicinal qualities and how to infuse them into culinary creations.
The theme for June’s workshop was selected by current ambassadors Ayla Tuffaha (8) and Sophia Tuffaha (6) from Woodbridge because they are always excited to try new foods and experiment with flavours.
When the girls were asked about their inspiration for the workshop theme, Sophia said: “I love smelling herbs and sprinkling them on food. They make your hands smell nice,” while Ayla added; “Mint and coriander are my favourite herbs because they have lots of flavour.”
Advance booking is required to secure a free spot at Dobbies’ June Little Seedlings Club session. For more information on how children can participate visit, www.dobbies.com
If you have a child interested in becoming a Little Seedlings Club Ambassador or you would like to nominate a child, you can complete a short form explaining why they would like to become an ambassador, as well as providing a photograph of them in their gardening environment.
Applications are open until 23 June 2024. www.dobbies.com
