About ‘Moving Cloud’ with TRIP & Sian
Tonight sees the world premiere of ‘Moving Cloud’ – an exciting collaboration of contemporary dance and traditional music created by Celtic Connections and Scottish Dance Theatre, showcasing a new score performed by a 14 piece folk ensemble featuring the musicians of TRIP & Sian along with Greg Lawson and Alice Allen.
Led by Artistic Director Joan Clevillé, Scottish Dance Theatre creates dance that is engaging and engaged. The company is one of the few full-time ensembles in the UK and is made up of a group of inquisitive and versatile dancers who have come from all over the world to work and create in their home at Dundee Rep. Working at the forefront of the art form, Scottish Dance Theatre collaborates with internationally acclaimed choreographers and artists, supports the development of emerging and homegrown talent and promotes a plurality of voices.
TRIP unites the kindred Celtic traditions of Scotland, Ireland, Northumbria and the Isle of Man. This Glasgow-based six-piece includes players from all those places and their music mixes traditional tunes with their own contemporary compositions, backed by accordion, flute, fiddle, guitar, piano, bodhran and song. Debut album, A Drop For Neptune, is inspired by the sea – the elemental force that unites communities and musical traditions. As one reviewer noted, this is “music not to sit down to.
Sian means “storm” and this all-female Gaelic singing trio is a force of nature. Their eponymous debut album was lauded by FolkRadio as “three stunning voices combined in playful and well-arranged harmonies, creating real magic”.
Supported the Scottish Government’s Festival’s Expo Fund.
