The Glasgow Business Awards began in 1997 when they were held in the then Thistle Hotel to an audience of around 250 people. The awards have grown significantly since then, becoming a champion of business achievements and successes in Glasgow.
Now considered a ‘must-attend’ diary invite, the black-tie ceremony is set to have a full roster of influential business figures in attendance. Scottish comedian, Fred MacAulay, will provide plenty of comic relief as he comperes the ceremony for the eighth year in a row.
Seventeen trophies are set to be awarded on the night, in front of 650 esteemed guests and 65 of Glasgow’s top businesses. A host of businesses will be eagerly waiting to find out if they have been given top honours following their shortlisting in August.
Amongst the 17 categories is the highly coveted Royal Bank of Scotland Award for Most Outstanding Business. Previous winners include iconic Glasgow business staples, Allied Vehicles Group, GAP Hire Solutions and JW Filshill.
The highly prestigious Glasgow Chamber of Commerce Award for Lifetime Achievement will also be announced on the night, with previous winners for the awards including Ian Curle, Lord Gordon of Strathblane CBE and last year was awarded to Professor Pamela Gillies.
Also awarded on the night is the Glasgow Times Award for Glasgow’s Favourite Business, the only award on the night that is subject to a public vote. Previously, the award has been bestowed upon Glasgow Science Centre, Glasgow Taxis, Slater Menswear and Auchentoshan Distillery.
Richard Muir, Deputy Chief Executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce said: “We are thrilled to welcome each and every one of our guests to the Glasgow Business Awards this year.
“Over the last two and a half decades, we have had the pleasure of welcoming some of Glasgow’s most iconic business leaders at the gala and celebrating the successes of Glasgow businesses. It’s a joy to see so many talented and inspirational business leaders will be in attendance.
“Best of luck to all the nominated businesses. We cannot wait to see you out in full force at the awards!”
Judith Cruickshank, chair, One Bank Scotland Board, Royal Bank of Scotland, said: “The news that the 25th Glasgow Business Awards is now sold out shows the optimism and energy that exists within the city’s business community and once again, Royal Bank of Scotland is proud to be a part of it.
“The city plays a crucial role in the success of Scotland’s economy and these awards help showcase the talent that is based here and the opportunities that it can offer.
“We look forward to the awards themselves and wish every nominee and finalist the best of luck.”
